Hey everyone! Ok, I couldn’t wait to write this post. I briefly talked about this topic on my last post here. I wanted to really talk about the non physical benefits of working out. I started working out for aesthetic purposes. I wanted to put on more muscles (and to fit into adult size clothing). The physical benefits have been great. My body has changed, I have become stronger, and I can sometimes lift weight a few pounds over my own body weight. Throughout this fitness journey of mine (or lifestyle change, but journey sounds cooler) I have gained way more than just a better body. I have learned that the non-physical benefits of exercising totally outweigh the aesthetic benefits of working out. I’m here preaching what I practice. Exercising has totally changed my life and I hope it changes your life as well. I’m briefly going to talk about all the ways exercise has helped me in all aspects of my life.
You’ll start sleeping better: This was HUGE for me. After a tough workout, my body needs to rest. I used to have a hard time falling asleep at night. Now, as soon as I my head hits the pillow, I’m out.
Your breathing gets better: This was something that came as a surprise to me. I didn’t even realize I had a problem with my breathing. My breath used to shorten when I’d go up a few stairs or even when I had my head down. My breathing has improved drastically since I started exercising.
It reduces stress: Nothing like an intense workout after a hard day. When I’m feeling upset or down a good workout is all I need to make me feel better. I feel like I can handle stressful situations better after I put my energy towards exercising. Next time you are feeling stressed simply put on your headphones, go for a run, a walk, or just head to the gym.
Your memory improves: It’s true! Exercise can actually help improve your memory (this explains why I can remember every freaking detail of my life). Exercise boosts the part of your brain that’s responsible for remembering things. Working out increases blood flow to your brain. It also improves thinking skills and your mood.
Improves your confidence: This can relate to my last post. No matter how you look in the mirror, exercise has actually been proven to boost your confidence. Simply doing something good for your body will make you feel better about yourself. I know I always feel my best during a workout!
I hope this post inspires you to get moving. Have you experienced any non-physical benefits from working out? Comment below.
