Staying focused and productive is one of my New year’s resolutions. I become distracted too easily (oh look a dog!) and I have decided to write a blog post on how to help you (and myself) with this problem. I especially have to stay extra focused and motivated now that I’m running my blog. No one is pushing me to do this and I’m my own boss lady. Here are a few tips that have helped me write each and every blog post for Girl Meets Gym.
Plan ahead
I recently went back in time and purchased a notebook. Actually writing out my to do list has helped me stay on task. Technology is great, but having a planner/notebook works wonders with productivity. Write out your thoughts, your plans, your schedule, and your to do list in a journal. I write out my whole week and even began scheduling my blog posts into a calendar. I promise you’ll notice a difference.
Turn your phone off
Put it away or turn it off. I place my phone far away from me when I’m creating new blog posts (like right now for instance). It is my biggest distraction and I can’t be near it when I’m working. Whatever text or Instagram notification I receive can wait till I’m done my work.
Work out of a coffee shop or public place
Something about working out of a public place with people around helps me stay focused. I read an article once that said the moderate noises in a coffee shop help with concentration and creativity. At home, I am easily distracted to complete another task or to clean and that leads to no work being completed. Get out of your home and do your work. It’ll also be a nice change of scene and you’ll become more productive.
Get stuff done early in the morning
I know I’m crazy. But the older I’m getting, the more I am appreciating early mornings. I actually really enjoy waking up before the sun. I am focused and less distracted. I feel especially great when I get a ton of tasks completed before noon. Early mornings have become my new favourite (with a big cup of coffee that is!) It doesn’t happen often (because I love sleeping in) but when I get the strength to wake up, I am super productive.
Take a break every 20 minutes
While I’m doing work, I set an alarm for every 20 minutes to give myself a quick 2 minute stretch/check my phone break. Actually, every person who works a desk job should try this exercise. This way you’re not sitting for too long (because sitting for too long is bad for your back, knees, butt, etc.) and you can quickly get back to focusing on your work.
These are my few tips on how to stay productive. Do you have any tips to share with me? Comment below xo

Adorable pics! I LOVE the tip about working outside of the house. I totally feel you, I get so distracted and then all of the sudden I am rearranging my closet. I love that you incorporated a break for stretching too! x

I can definitely agree that turning off your phone and working somewhere else works. I know if I am working from home, it gets so easy to start playing around on my phone then end up taking a nap on the couch. Totally great tips <3
